Chapter 80.1

6 min read

Bael eventually withdrew his saliva-soaked lips and scanned through Julia’s blood-soaked stomach ever so slowly.

“Haa—what about the wound?”

“I’m fine now…”

“I don’t really think so.”

Wounds this deep wouldn’t be healed by kisses alone. The amount of blood had clearly been less than before, but it was still oozing out. In fact, her broken ankle was still in bad shape as well.

As Bael’s murderous eyes turned towards the humans, Julia hurriedly grabbed onto his arm.

“Will you please trust me again?”

“You saw me doing all that.”

“But you still tended to me like this.”

“Since it’s just pathetic to see you being attacked by your allies like that.”

Contrary to what he had just said, Bael’s hand was still stroking over Julia’s stomach. He seemed to be rather oblivious of his own actions, but in other words, it meant that he was still mindful of her condition even if it had just been subconsciously.

When the magic circle was lifted and the barrier disappeared, the emissaries from the Human Realm were finally able to get back to the ground. Then, everything could ultimately return to normal.

Julia flushed as she hesitantly proceeded to stroke Bael’s palm.

“Then, please heal me yourself. Demon King……”

She couldn’t bear to continue as she dragged her words along. Her cheeks appeared as though they had been all aflame and gone just like that. Unaware of how persistent Bael was looking at herself, Julia eventually lowered her head in order to hold back her desperate embarrassment.

“What—why is she still breathing? As expected, Julia Vestra is just another disgusting monster! She’s not human at all!”

At that time, the gathered knights had split into two separate sides at once.

Ruslan, whose eyes were burning red, kept aiming the spear at Julia—and at random at times. A cloud of magic power slowly emanated from the tip of the sharp spear. And anyone could have guessed the fact that if they were to brush against it, they would ultimately face a miserable end.

Bael’s expression, which seemed to be relaxed for a moment, turned ferocious—just like a beast that got thrown into hellfire—at the sight of it. A red surge of magic began to get condensed at his fingertips. It was gradually morphing into the form of a giant tarantula, which she had already seen before.

“You will never be able to die in peace.”

“Command. Base, magic circle.”

Along with the effect, a transparent shining film was created above the heads of those knights. They could feel the magic that had been weighing heavily on their shoulders just a moment ago slowly disappeared. A look of surprise was mixed amidst the faces of the men who got to experience her current power.

On the other hand, Bael’s face hardened even more coldly. It was because of the fact that he knew that whenever Julia had used her magic, a large amount of mana would be consumed. The life force that was in her hand had noticeably weakened.

“Please save them. Please allow them to return safely.”

“Why are you fighting against me?”

“Please……”

The sound of her breathing, which had become evidently fainter than before, gradually scratched Bael’s nerves. As he suppressed his anger, he began to spit out words one after another.

“Your abilities may have their limits, but I don’t.”

“Then, I won’t give up either.”

“Do you want to die? Or do you simply want to play the role of such an absurd saint? Why do you keep on doing things like that?”

“I just want to be happy.”

A sense of exhaustion loomed from all kinds of hostility and conflict. She didn’t want to live a life that was exposed to those kinds of feelings anymore. She simply wanted to go back to her own peaceful daily life.

“It’s not actually for those people. In fact, I don’t want to pretend to be nice, I just want to be happy. And that came from when I don’t have any guilt or even weight carried on my back. Living here with everyone is so precious.”

She hoped that Bael would understand her heart. He had been a very strong being, but she still wanted him to know the fear of a weak being such like herself could feel.

She was not strong enough to just live normally after taking another person’s life. She felt both heavy and guilty even if she were to accidentally hurt just a single person. Therefore, if these countless lives were to get lost because of herself, she wouldn’t be able to bear it for the rest of her life. As a matter of fact, even the act of breathing would prove to be hell.

Bael persistently scanned through Julia’s figure as she clung to him. The pale cheeks, the faint tremors, a nervous series of breaths as well as that hesitant touch of her hand. However, those eyes were absolutely clear without a trace of hesitation at all. It was not the look of a mere deceiver.

‘Still, I can’t just leave him alone.’

The one who was called Ruslan from before. If nothing else, he simply couldn’t forgive him for hurting the key earlier.

“You monster bitch! If you’re deemed to be useless as the key, you’ll be the first to get thrown away! Just drop into the most miserable death at the bottom of hell!!”

Bael stared silently as the half-mad man who had been wielding the spear recklessly. The spear that had absorbed all the blood of the key from the surface of his hand was now looking for its next prey.

“That’s just about right.”

“What?”

Bael pretended to pick Julia up as he casually covered her eyes. He didn’t have to bother in using his hands cumbersomely, but he still felt very displeased to have him left to Kimaris only. At this rate, he could grow to be an incompetent man instead.

‘Shouldn’t he just die in front of the key then?’

This was the reason why one must have been careful when making a pact with the devil. The red tarantula that Bael had created earlier eventually disappeared into Ruslan’s heavy armor.
