Huo Yuyan’s gaze stopped on the young man, and then moved away as if nothing had happened.
He shifted his gaze to Lou Wanjun with the same gentleness. He smiled shallowly and said, “Little Sister, who is that person in front of you, who deserves your flying into a rage?”
While speaking, he lifted the curtain of the carriage and tried to get off. The eunuch sitting outside immediately stood up and rushed to put down the footstool for him, and then helped him out of the carriage.
Lou Wanjun had no choice but to abandon the lackeys in her hand and step forward to greet him.
“It’s nothing.” She smiled and said casually, “I just happened to pass by here and saw some official disciples bullying others, so I came to poke my nose into it.”
When Huo Yuyan heard her response, he smiled and looked at her sideways with a trace of doting in his eyes. He raised his hand and stroked her hair: “As expected, Little Sister hates evil as if it were your enemy.”
His tone overflowed with hopeless laughter, sounding rather ambiguous. Nobody noticed that when Huo Yuyan said this, his eyes drifted away, intentionally or unintentionally glancing at the young man who was standing upright.
The young man didn’t dodge and stood tall and straight.
Huo Yuyan sneered deep inside.
He had seen a lot of pretentious people like him.
Lou Wanjun didn’t notice his gaze at all, just because his tone was not quite right, as if there was an uncomfortable itch in her ears.
Why is this Huo Yuyan speaking more and more mushy? She wondered inwardly.
With this in mind, she felt disinclined to stand with Huo Yuyan in this downtown anymore. She looked up at him and shifted the topic, “I haven’t asked yet… Brother Huo, how did you wind up here?”
Huo Yuyan tenderly smiled and replied, “That’s not important. I just thought that I haven’t been out since I came to Lin’an. It so happened that I had nothing to do today, so I went out for a walk.”
Lou Wanjun laughed and said, “What a coincidence, then.”
After saying that, she pushed Huo Yuyan and said, “There’s nothing more to do over here, so Brother Huo should get going.”
Afterwhich, she turned around and looked at the scholar who was standing upright.
Since she saved him, she might as well help to the end. Just now, She heard that the boy surnamed Du said that he was poor and wanted to take the imperial exam. She’d better provide him with financial help and save him from humiliation in the future.
However, before she could voice out the words from her mouth, Huo Yuyan frowned unhappily behind her and looked at Nie Cong.
How could this be? She was anxious to drive him away, but she wanted to stay and talk to this poor handsome young man.
Huo Yuyan immediately laughed and suggested, “If Little Sister has nothing to do, why don’t you travel with me?”
When Lou Wanjun heard his question, she immediately fell into a dilemma.
She naturally did not want to travel with Huo Yuyan. Although Huo Yuyan was indeed good-looking, his dilly-dallying always gave her goosebumps. Hence, she felt that she was better off finding a tart scholar to play chess and chant poetry to her heart’s content.
But… she couldn’t tell him that she was also hunting for wine, right?
Somehow, intuition told her that as long as she said this out, Huo Yuyan would certainly offer to accompany her to find it. By then, the pleasure of finding wine would turn into torture.
Lou Wanjun objected to doing so.
So with this thought, she looked at the scholar again with some regret.
Forget it. Even if she wanted to do a good deed, she could only do it the next time. She was now in a fiery pit and could hardly take care of others.
Lou Wanjun turned her head and smiled awkwardly towards Huo Yuyan.
“Unfortunately,” she reasoned, “I sneaked out of the barracks just now. Now that the time is up, my father will be checking my post. I have to sneak back quickly so that he doesn’t notice.”
Huo Yuyan’s complexion dimmed. He was about to speak when he saw Lou Wanjun waving her hand at him hurriedly and saying, “I’m leaving!” Thereafter, she pushed through the crowd and left.
After taking only two steps away, she stopped again and turned around.
“Are you still going to set up a stall here later?” She addressed Nie Cong.
Nie Cong replied, “Yes.”
Lou Wanjun smiled brightly.
“That’s good!” she said.
After saying that, she waved her hand towards Huo Yuyan and walked straight away.
Huo Yuyan stared at her back, his gaze somewhat obscure.
How could a man like him not see the clues? Just now, the carefree look on Lou Wanjun’s face as she rose gallantly to the occasion as well as her frequent sneak peeks at the scholar didn’t have an iota of anxiousness at all.
Only when he invited her to travel with him did she suddenly have an urgent matter to deal with.
As for the reason behind, how could he not see it?
A few days ago, Lou Wanjun was not like this. This change was naturally due to someone else’s appearance.
The said person was the one that she was thinking about even after she left.
Huo Yuyan’s gaze froze. With a meaningful smile, his eyes drifted away and faintly landed on the scholar.
