Chapter 209

6 min read

This morning, Jiang Suizhou failed to get up to go to the imperial study.

Of course, he could not go. The wolf who finally ate meat was not to be underestimated. At long last, he closed his eyes as he wished when dawn arrived. Consequently, he could not go to the imperial study room and fight wisdom with Huo Yuyan.

Huo Wujiu, on the other hand, looked refreshed.

After Jiang Suizhou closed his eyes, he vaguely heard the sound of Huo Wujiu getting up. When he moved, Huo Wujiu leaned over and kissed him on the corner of his mouth.

“Sleep ahead,”  Huo Wujiu whispered in a low voice. “I’m going to run some errands.

His tone gave the impression that Jiang Suizhou wanted to keep him.

Jiang Suizhou was dead-tired, so he only scolded him secretly in his heart, turned his head and fell asleep.

Huo Wujiu let out a throaty laughter and leaned forward to kiss him again before tying his belt and rising up.

The errand he mentioned was also to help Jiang Suizhou.

He knew that Jiang Suizhou was concerned about the little memorials in the imperial study. Without something weighing on his mind, he naturally couldn’t sleep well.

Thus, at dawn, Huo Wujiu hurriedly left the door and packed up all the memorials in the imperial study.

After he took the memorials away, he rushed out of the city, returned to the barracks, and proofread them one by one according to Jiang Suizhou’s booklet.

Huo Yuyan drafted all the documents for these appointments under Jiang Suizhou’s supervision, and they only needed to be signed and stamped to take effect. Now that Jiang Suizhou couldn’t go to the imperial study, he couldn’t leave these documents in Huo Yuyan’s hands. Otherwise troubles would easily arise.

After Huo Wujiu checked them one by one, he signed his name and stamped his seal with a big wave of his pen.

Anyway, the power to appoint these officials was granted to him by virtue of Emperor Zhao Yuan’s imperial decree. Now that Huo Yuyan was here, it was his duty to obey his orders, but taking the lead in such matters was not overstepping his bounds.

By the time he finished dealing with the memorials, it was already dawn.

Huo Wujiu kicked the door of Lou Yue’s tent open, and shoved all the memorials to him.

“Take them. Go to the post house where the dignitaries are staying, and arrange them one by one.” He instructed, “Just tell them it’s my decree. If there’s anything you don’t understand, ask Qi Min yourself.”

Lou Yue was currently still dazed from his sleep. When he looked up, he saw a pile of memorials, and Huo Wujiu with dark circles around his eyes.

Lou Yue unrolled the memorial on top suspiciously, and discovered that it was an official appointment document. The big seal on it was also Huo Wujiu’s.

Lou Yue was dumbfounded.

“This…” This was such a major issue. How could it be done so hastily?

Huo Wujiu said, “Be quick. The quicker the better, understand?”

Lou Yue understood. This was not rash, but extra urgent.

“Got it!” Lou Yue answered without delay.

In this way, when the paperwork was sent to the officials, the matter would be finalized and there would be no more turning around. Huo Wujiu handed them to Lou Yue, put his mind at ease, turned around and left.

He rode a fast horse again and galloped back to the palace.

Jiang Suizhou was sleeping in the palace. He was so tired from the previous night that he felt as if his bones were falling apart. When Huo Wujiu entered, he saw him sleeping quietly, with vivid and ambiguous red marks on the spots that were not covered by the thin blanket.

He squatted down beside the bed, as if he had finally got some rare treasure. He lay on the edge of the bed, looking at Jiang Suizhou and laughing under his breath.

His laughter was rather silly.

Jiang Suizhou was awakened by his voice. He moved and immediately uttered a pained hiss.

Huo Wujiu tensed up and got up quickly.

They spent the whole night last night tossing and turning. Huo Wujiu did lose control and went a bit overboard. He felt a bit distressed afterward, but this distress was mixed with a raging affection, urging him to climb onto the bed and hug Jiang Suizhou into his arms.

While in his embrace, Jiang Suizhou frowned and murmured inarticulately.

“Why is it so cold…” he murmured.

Only then did Huo Wujiu take notice. He rode his horse back and forth, and when he left it was still dark, so he was soaked in morning dew. He did not feel much cold, but now that he was in their warm nest, it seemed that he was radiating coldness.

Huo Wujiu instantly backed away. Without even bothering to get out of bed, he fumbled under the quilt and took off his robe, then moved forward again to embrace Jiang Suizhou.

This time, Jiang Suizhou was greeted by a warm and firm chest.

The aura of this chest was too familiar. It was like a bird’s nest, cozy and warm. Jiang Suizhou welcomed that embrace, leaned against it unconsciously, and his warm breath immediately intertwined with the warm aura emanating from the skin.

All that Huo Wujiu felt was a tingle in his heart.

He lowered his head, and there was Jiang Suizhou’s sleeping face leaning in his arms. He wrapped his arms tighter, and then was struck by the exhaustion from a sleepless night and a busy morning, along with the sultry heat from the bedding.

This kind of weary indolence only arose whenever he was with Jiang Suizhou. When he was in the army, his only thought was that this sleepiness was a fatal weakness. Therefore, even if he rested in the barracks, he was still resting on weapons. Even while asleep, he kept alert.

But it was different now.

No one could possibly stay rational and alert in the warm embrace of a beauty. They just wanted to dive in, hug that person, and sleep soundly.

He thought so and did so.

When he tightened his arms a bit, he heard the whisper of the person in his arms.

“… Huo Wujiu.”

Huo Wujiu was startled. He thought that his hug was too tight and had strangled Jiang Suizhou awake.

“Hmm?” He promptly answered. He lowered his head, and saw that Jiang Suizhou in his arms was still asleep. His eyes were closed, and only his eyelashes fluttered a few times.

It turned out that he was talking in his sleep.

He even called my name in his dream? Huo Wujiu laughed mutedy, feeling his heart melting away with that whispered call.

However, Jiang Suizhou continued under his breath.

“…Damn bastard.”

It turned out that calling him in his dream was to scold him?

Huo Wujiu’s laughter abruptly stopped.

Then, he laughed even more, and even his chest quivered slightly.

“Right, I’m a bastard, I’m an out and out bastard.”

He answered, lowered his head and kissed Jiang Suizhou on his forehead, then closed his eyes.

The sun was shining brightly outside the window, and the palace staff came and went busily.

However, the door of the main courtyard remained tightly closed until sunrise, until the cicadas outside the window gradually awakened.
