Chapter 61.1

4 min read

The man whose eyes met me was very beautiful with calm dark brown hair that came down to his shoulders. His glossy hair, which young ladies who used tens and thousands of resos every month for hair care could never achieve, was at a level enough to shoot a shampoo commercial.

“Clive Norton…?” I murmured the man’s name softly.

The handsome man, like a pop out illustration of a game, was Clive Norton, the eldest son of Count Norton and the owner of the magic tower called Wiseman.

“Yes. I appreciate that you remember me.”

His eyes were looking at me with kindness. The black eyes over the glasses looked sweet at first glance, but there was a certain sharpness to it. From the moment our eyes met, I felt that Clive was constantly analyzing me.

“Is there anything I can do for the Lord of the Magic Tower?”

I pretended to be unfamiliar, but in fact I knew Clive well. He was a character who appeared to the main character, becoming a good friend to me who only targeted Curtis.

‘So, he must be Jian’s friend now.’

Clive was a kind and loyal man who’d go out of his way for his friend. In other words, it meant that he could do anything to Edith, whom he considered as an enemy for the sake of his friend, Jian, who was also the object of his unrequited love.

“…I was just a little worried.”

My eyes widened at the faint sigh that escaped between Clive’s moderately thick lips.

“You were worried about me?”

“Yes. I heard you had a feud with Grand Duke Caballero.”

I squinted at his explanation. Edith and Clive have only encountered each other in social circles a few times, but had little contact.

“Were we so close that the Lord of the Magic Tower was so concerned with my personal life?”

“No…”

Could it be that Clive existed in Edith’s past that I haven’t figured out yet? He scratched his cheek as if he was embarrassed by my puzzled look.

“I was presumptuous. I heard that the Young Lady Abina was a friend of the saint, so I developed a close relationship with you on my own.”

A friend of his friend.

I was stunned by Clive’s excuse and laughed.

I’ve never said I was friends with Jian, so why do people in this world think so? They should just show the whole world the scene where I grabbed and tore her hair out.

“I’ve been her friend since the saint descended into this world. If Young Lady is Jian’s friend, I want to cherish Young Lady as my friend as well.”

I listened to Clive’s pure loveliness and licked my lips. According to my original temperament, I would’ve replied that I wasn’t Jian’s friend, telling him off right away. But in my pocket, there was an Oriharcon rolling around with a clattering sound.

‘In this original game, the person who went looking for the Oriharcon with Jian was this man.’

“Yes, I was also curious about the Lord of the Magic Tower, so that’s great.”

I laughed as I accepted Clive’s offer to be friends with me.

“Wasn’t the Wiseman Tower just near the Great Hall? I want to take a look.”

* * *

Clive’s eyes widened as if surprised that I wanted to see the Magic Tower, but he didn’t refuse and showed me around.

“I’m a bit of a mess since I’m not ready to welcome guests.”

Wiseman, the only magic tower in the empire, was a high-rise tower made of dazzling ivory. However, unlike the old-fashioned exterior, once inside, it was like a crowded market with people running around carrying piles of documents and medicine.

‘I was asking for it.’

Clive glanced at my embarrassed face and blushed as if ashamed. I shrugged because it was enough to see the handsome man fiddling with his glasses.

“This is very clean in my standards. Is your room on the top floor?”

I didn’t notice it when I was playing the game, but when I saw it right in front of me, Clive was just as gentle as Curtis, but he had a certain charm that made me want to tease him. I rolled my eyes, imagining what was inside of his neatly arranged cloak.

“Yes. Please come this way.”

At my question, Clive took me up the little warp by the stairs. It was barely enough for a person to climb on, so I almost hugged him, but the feeling of his chest against my cheek was unexpectedly firm.
