Ai Luo suddenly said, “Then do you like me?”
“What are you talking about?” Shen Shao seemed to have heard a joke and looked at Ai Luo with incredulity, “Did you go crazy from heartbreak?”
Ai Luo panted as he looked into Shen Shao’s eyes, saying slowly, “Can we foster our feelings?”
Shen Shao frowned. “Apologies, I don’t think we’re a good fit.”
“How?” Ai Luo pressed, “Xiao Li likes me, definitely more than that Miss Fang. I treat Xiao Li really well, am I not the best choice for raising Xiao Li together? Even if you don’t like me, it’s not like you like Miss Fang, so why isn’t it me?”
Shen Shao looked at Ai Luo for some time, and then seemed to have decided that he couldn’t be reasoned with, so he turned and walked towards his study.
Ai Luo caught up with him and gripped his hand, “Don’t go.”
“Let go.” Shen Shao said coldly without turning around.
“No.” Ai Luo said bitterly, “If I do, you’ll go find a stepmother for Xiao Li.”
“What does that have to do with you?” Shen Shao asked.
“It does, it does . . .” Ai Luo didn’t know what to say, “Either way, you can’t get Xiao Li a stepmother, what if she mistreats Xiao Li?”
“Miss Fang has good character, I trust that she won’t.”
“I still don’t agree!” Ai Luo gripped Shen Shao’s hand and made him turn around. Shen Shao looked at him coldly, “Your opinion doesn’t matter, who do you think you are?”
Ai Luo opened his mouth without saying anything.
Shen Shao sneered and threw Ai Luo hand off. Ai Luo followed him upstairs and saw Shen Shao close the door to the study.
Ai Luo stood in front of the door for a long time, but didn’t walk in.
After a long time, Ai Luo remembered that he left Xiao Li alone downstairs. He was worried that he would panic without seeing anyone upon waking up, so he prepared to go back.
At the stop of the stairs, someone suddenly gripped his arm and stopped him from going down.
Ai Luo knew who it was and was secretly happy. However, before he could turn and see Shen Shao’s expression, he was punched in the face.
“Who the fuck do you think you are? How do you have the right to not agree? Coming and going as you wish, where do you think it is?” Shen Shao pressed Ai Luo to the ground and punched him mercilessly, “Bastard! Why don’t you agree? I’m marrying someone else, if you have any kind of feelings, you should be fucking off and not letting me see you again!”
“No way!” Ai Luo didn’t resist and accepted Shen Shao’s beating. He tried to sit up and embrace Shen Shao, “I won’t leave you, even if you beat me to death, I still won’t . . . Shen Shao, I won’t beg you to forgive me or love me, just let me stay by your and Xiao Li’s side, even as a servant, I’d be happy . . . But please don’t marry someone else, okay? I really can’t accept that!”
“You won’t leave?” Shen Shao paused, and gripped Ai Luo’s collar, “Where the fuck were you when I was giving birth, then? When I almost died on the operating bed not even a month later? Now you know to come back?”
Ai Luo cried, “I was here, I’ve always been here.”
Shen Shao was stunned, “What?”
Ai Luo, who was really Jun Li, slowly said, “I’ve always been by your side. I just thought that you didn’t want to see me, so I didn’t dare show up as myself. When you gave birth, I was there as a nurse. I was also at your surgery; I wheeled you in. You have no idea how broken I was when I saw you in such pain. If something happened to you that day, I wouldn’t have been able to live.”
He sighed and hugged Shen Shao tighter, “But I didn’t dare show up. I thought you didn’t want to see me. You said you’d rather die than be with me, so I had to find some either way to get close to you. I overestimated myself though, and when I heard that you’d be marrying someone else, let my child call someone else mother, I couldn’t take it anymore. Shen Shao, it’s my fault. I loved you in the wrong way, so can you allow me to repay it? Don’t chase me away, I’ll be a piece of furniture, an ornament, don’t leave me, please . . .”
“Who doesn’t want you? Who’s chasing you away?” Shen Shao hoarsely said after a long time, “If I really didn’t want you, I would have chased you away on the first day. Who did you think you fooled with that?”
Jun Li lifted his head, happiness showing in his eyes, “Really?”
Shen Shao covered his face, not letting Jun Li see his reddened eyes, “No, I’m telling you to go.”
“No!” Jun Li wanted to laugh, but that made his face hurt from Shen Shao’s punches. He didn’t care about the pain and said eagerly, “You saw through me a long time ago, right? But you didn’t chase me away, which means you’re still willing to be with me, right? I’m not leaving, I’m not leaving, even if you chase me away I still wouldn’t leave!”
“Stupid fish.” Shen Shao wanted to stay expressionless, but he couldn’t remain that way in front of Jun Li’s passion. Tears sparkled in his eyes as he looked at Jun Li and asked helplessly, “Do you even understand what love is?”
Jun Li licked at the tears in Shen Shao’s eyes, “Not at all before, not that much right now. Will you please teach me? I’ll use my entire life to learn it, okay?”
Shen Shao looked at Jun Li for a long time and sighed. He still couldn’t resist the urge to kiss him.
