As they realized that the hostage’s resistance was stronger than expected, two more men came forward and grabbed a hold of her. They deliberately acted like that in order to provoke Bael further.

The left sleeve of her dress was completely torn, which ultimately revealed Julia’s pure white chest. There was a heavy silence for a moment between the knights who had seen the scene, but that still didn’t stop them at all. Survival was far more important than just the mere pride of a high-ranking noble right now.

The men’s voices became strangely quiet for a moment right after they had urgently shouted something just earlier. Their eyes were all directed to the red mark engraved on Julia’s chest.

As Bael waved his hand ever so lightly, blade-shaped chunks of ice fell indiscriminately onto the humans. The knights had no other choice but to protect Julia just as Bael intended earlier. They simply couldn’t let go of their sole bargaining chip.
Urgent shouts ultimately came and went over Julia’s crouched head. Mana had collided with magic and explosions began to erupt from all sides.
“Damn it—protect the key!”
Ruslan commanded the knights at the forefront. He took Julia from them and placed her behind his back as he fully opened his mana before he gradually set up a strong barrier.
Bael’s gaze, which had been staring only at Julia amidst the whole crowd, became even fiercer in return. The man who had stepped forward was clearly familiar. Besides, he didn’t have the slightest hesitation in touching the country’s Princess even when he was just a mere knight. He was distinctly different from the others.

Meanwhile, Julia was absolutely bewildered by the current situation. Ruslan lowered his head and muttered softly in Julia’s ear. He continued to watch her with interest as she desperately gasped for breath. Julia’s eyes soon became unfocused and blurred.

He proceeded to caress Julia’s shoulder gently.
