When Julia flinched involuntarily, a mocking voice could suddenly be heard from below.
“You’re fretting all over.”
“What, what do you mean, fret? That’s just impossible. I’m telling you this just in case, but if you do something strange again, I’ll really run away. I’ll then hide somewhere until the Demon King finally apologizes…”
As Julia had thought that Bael was drifting asleep, her eyes became blinded to his reaction. Her mind was all jumbled up. She didn’t know what she had been talking about or how dangerously Bael’s eyes had flashed when she muttered that she was going to hide away.
“You can’t do that.”
“Uuht.”
“There is no place in this body that my eyes can never reach.”
Bael raised his torso as he leaned on his elbows while facing her gaze. His hair was now tickling Julia’s entire body, albeit gently. Even though he didn’t touch her skin directly, her lower stomach had already tightened up.
Julia tried to calm her trembling breath. It was hard and dizzying just to imagine how much more she would be bullied if she were to avert his eyes just then.
Bael did not like anyone going against his will. He was a born king, so it wasn’t something that he could actually understand. Therefore, Julia chose to divert his attention first even before the atmosphere could take a dangerous turn.
“I, I’ve heard about where the other demons were born before. Back when I was living in Paimon’s mansion previously.”
“…”
Bael’s gaze was simply scanning her up and down leisurely. The atmosphere that he gave off was reminiscent of that of a full beast right after a meal. In his eyes, Julia was exactly like a cornered small white rabbit.
Fortunately, the beast seemed intent on watching the rabbit acting cutely. To be given that kind of a momentary respite, Julia gulped down and quickly spoke out.
“Agares and Bottis were born in the southern part of the Demon Realm while Paimon had been born in the west. On top of that, Barbatos and Lerazier were born in the east. Revenna and Kimaris said that they woke up right in the middle that was not too far from this current nest.”
Bael didn’t look particularly interested. With his elbow still supporting his upper body while his chin simply resting against it, he seemed to be idly thinking about how to peel and eat the small prey that was right in front of him.
Julia instantly broke into cold sweat. But if she were to stop talking right away, her future would be utterly obvious, so she grabbed onto the sheet like she was holding on to her lifeline.
“And I also heard a little strange story. Even the Demon King probably wasn’t aware about this.”
To be precise, it would have been correct to say that Bael had no intention of knowing since he was not the type to be particularly interested in the others anyway.
“If you ask around, there is no one that has been born in the north, right?”
Bael’s face instantly froze as he looked upwards at Julia. However, it was only a very minor difference from his appearance, which went unnoticed to Julia, who eventually continued without much thought.
“I heard that the northern land is actually very vast and there is also a very huge lake, but why is there no demon being born in the north or even based over there?”
“…”
“They said that I was the first person to actually notice this as the demons weren’t interested in each other enough to have a private conversation together. Isn’t this a pretty interesting topic for the Demon King to listen to?”
The first time she had brought it up in Paimon’s mansion, Paimon and Lerazier just blinked blankly at her in response. Even when she returned to the nest and began asking the opinions of the other demons, Agares and Barbatos narrowed their eyes as if something was actually strange.
She thought that it was a great discovery in her own way. She vaguely thought that Bael might even look as surprised as they did. Julia’s big eyes eventually shone with much anticipation.
“You actually told that to the others?”
“What?”
“With what qualifications do you, a mere human, actually dare to speak of that?”
The air around him fluctuated with such uneasiness. Then, Bael slowly began to raise his body. His body was much bigger and fiercer than that of Julia’s. He just raised his body up and that was already enough for him to corner Julia before putting pressure against her.
Bael reached out and touched the bedhead. As she was caught in between, Julia’s body shrank instinctively. Her eyes then began trembling anxiously. She didn’t know what the problem was, but she knew that her words had ultimately touched his nerves.
The murderous red eyes were already dipped into Julia while staring down at her as if he wanted to kill her already. However, she suddenly felt rather wronged. All the other demons had been surprised, so why was it that only Bael gave such a cold face in return?
Her heart, which had been shyly ticklish just a moment ago, hardened as if cold water had been poured onto it. She became absolutely furious. Her head screamed for her not to, but her heart couldn’t really stand the heat of the moment.
“…how could you actually say that to me?”
Julia said so with all her courage. However, Bael’s lips twisted cynically like he was mocking her efforts. It felt utterly miserable. Julia’s eyes were burning hot.
She wondered if the unspeakable intimacy that she had felt for him was actually one-sided. It was only her own foolish delusion that she thought how he had changed and began to wonder if she had just been a cheap doll that he could treat as he simply pleased still.
