His sudden action was puzzling, but Julia soon realized the reason behind it. Despite her best efforts to disperse it with her hands, the fog that had been completely motionless moments ago was now retreating far into the distance. It wasn’t just indoors; the surroundings within a certain radius had also become glaringly clear as if the clouds had parted all of a sudden.
However, what truly surprised her the most was something entirely different. And she couldn’t help but to exclaim in sheer awe.
“Oh my, that is so beautiful!”
The lake that had vanished amidst the fog earlier was now spread out right in front of her. It was vast and majestic with no such end in sight along the horizon. The calm and transparent surface softly reflected the dazzling evening sky as it poured down directly onto it.
In the face of such a breathtaking sight, Julia couldn’t help but to rise to her feet. The cool breeze from across the lake gently tickled her cheek. It was a sight that had been worth staring at for a while.
However, she was soon called back to reality as she could feel a sensation behind her back.
“But I heard that the lake had already disappeared. Why is it still here like this? Is it one of the changes that has been caused by the magic stone?”
“That stubborn instinct just won’t go away like that.”
Bael’s voice soon turned low and he seemed to be lost in thought, perhaps he was reminiscing about the past. And the muscles in his jaw gradually twitched in response.
Julia was now standing before him while holding up the white bedsheet. Despite the significant height difference, she still stretched her arm upwards, even on her tiptoe, until the sheet could nearly cover Bael’s line of sight, which therefore obstructed his view of the lake.
“You’ve already been active since early today, haven’t you? You must be very tired by now. If you don’t rest well, you’re going to have a hard time tomorrow as well.”
Bael’s seemingly indifferent gaze eventually fell upon Julia. However, she paid no heed to it and grabbed his hand before leading him away. As she climbed onto the bed first, she then patted the space right beside her. Bael seemed hesitant briefly before he finally took a seat on the bed while appearing to be somewhat reluctant still.
Julia proceeded to press his sturdy shoulder firmly as she guided him as it was. Although Bael was, by no means, a weak man who could be easily pushed around, surprisingly, he yielded to her as he simply allowed himself to be led to the bed.
Julia looked downwards at Bael’s face as she was concerned that he might still be struggling. However, his pupils, while somewhat complicated, displayed a more composed expression than what she had expected.
She rested her chin on her hands, which were placed on either side of his bent knees, and started to whisper softly by his side.
“Thank you for dispersing the fog. You did it for me, right? Since I was scared of it earlier.”
For Julia, Bael had been nothing but an object of fear right from the very beginning. It was like that ever since their first encounter together. His chiseled appearance, that beast-like physique, his overwhelming kingly power as well as his merciless and cruel personality.
Just by having him nearby would make her eyes well up with tears. Everything about him was the complete opposite of her own self.
However, after spending several months together, she began to see the hidden sides of his personality. The deep loneliness that he harbored, the kindness behind his actions that would usually contradict his words, the occasional playful jokes that he made, the warmth of his body that was pressed against hers and the rough sound of his breath, which had been filled with such a passionate desire.
The more time she spent by his side, the more she wanted to understand Bael himself. He was a demon of such unparalleled strength. He had a towering esteem and pride in his own red magic. Yet, it seemed like he wanted more than just the power of the Demon God.
He had his own reasons for challenging the magic stone and Julia had become increasingly certain of that fact.
‘What does Bael truly desire after all? If it’s not just about gaining the power of the Demon God…’
No—actually, that wasn’t what she had really been curious about. She just wanted to know how he truly felt about her. She sometimes found herself feeling uneasy about whether he was only treating her well simply as the key. However, when she encountered his kinder side, it thoroughly made her heart melt.
“I’m really thankful that you came here with me. I know that I’ve been rather selfish. I thought that you had every right to get angry with me or even treat me roughly.”
She couldn’t quite grasp her own feelings at the moment. Julia then gently fiddled the bedsheet with her fingertips.
Then, a large, firm pair of hands began to wrap around Julia’s waist before sliding in naturally just like a snake who had tempted Eve, the first woman.
Julia had raised her knees, which gradually exposed her inner thighs, albeit unintentionally. As she realized it belatedly, she shifted her posture abruptly as her instincts straight away warned her of the impending danger.
“Well, what I meant was…”
Bael’s expression as he looked at Julia was overtly discontented. Unbeknownst to her, his gaze actually contained more than just a simple dissatisfaction.
A deeper and more primal desire had seated deeply in his thoughts as he intently scanned all over her face. The way her features were clustered together around that small face, her slender and soft jawline, those large eyes that had been reminiscent of a frightened rabbit as well as her long, peach-like hair.
Bael supported his upper body before propping himself up with his elbows without him even realizing it. He couldn’t help but to find her small, rosy lips absolutely enticing indeed.
“If I were to say that from now on, I’ll treat you roughly—”
His voice was languid and seductive, which had been in contrast with the uncontrollable bubbling desires in his mind.
“How would you react?”
“Will, will you be hitting me then?”
“It might feel that way depending on how you take it. You’ve always been a bit stubborn anyway.”
The corner of Bael’s mouth twisted with satisfaction as if he had already expected this kind of response.
The sweet and moist scent inside her began to well up, which tantalized his senses even more. He wanted to sniff even closer while thrusting his nose straight into her. Bael eventually pushed Julia away and propped up his upper body.
In an instant, their positions were now reversed. Julia was now lying on her back while his shadow loomed all over her. Bael then towered over her like a predator with his prey at his feet before tilting his head in return.
“Why did this place become like this, huh?”
“Uht……”
“There will soon be another lake in the north. I think that this lake will be quite pleasant to me after all.”
