“Your trip to the West this time serves as an important opportunity to reexamine your significance.”
“Are you talking about the magic stone and the key?”
“The important review for that issue has long been over. What I’m talking about right now is regarding to the other side.”
“That’s just frustrating. If you talk like that, will the little key be able to understand that?”
It seemed that Julia had not been the only one who felt that Barbatos was changing his words subtly.
“Little key, actually, something happened while you were gone before. Master hadn’t been in a good mood at all.”
“What happened to the Demon King?”
Julia remembered the time when she woke up at Paimon’s mansion right after she had completed the quest. Bael’s behavior was somehow strange. He seemed to be angry and appeared to have a destructive sense of longing.
Although Bael might have had acted according to his mood at any given time, his actions were not without standards at all. That was why it hadn’t been that difficult for Julia to deal with him up till now. No matter what he said or did, he would not go overboard in any case.
However, Bael was definitely different then. She just woke up from a deep sleep. Therefore, she hadn’t done anything insensitive to invade his territory.
‘You are mine. And forever as the world exists.’
‘Isn’t that not the case though? You must have escaped from that young dragon’s nest after learning that the human Sword Master was still in this Western Land. To escape with him, you then cleverly put on a face like this.’
At first, she thought that Bael was simply mad. Destroying that magic crystal might have stimulated him greatly.
‘There will be no next time, so don’t leave my side ever again.’
However, his next words did not sound like a simple desire for his tools. Even if it was just an illusion that had been brought upon by her own swelling self-consciousness while living here.
Agares stared at Julia, who was immersed in her brief thoughts, with meaningful eyes before she soon continued.
“It’s a bit weird to say this about the Master as a mere servant, but to sum it all up, it can be said that he actually learned the importance of this little key? I was eventually able to reminisce about who the Master truly was before you descended to this Demon Realm.”
“What……?”
“Both Barbatos and Bottis are pretending to be fine right now, but back then, their flustered faces were really quite worth to see. Even though you only left for a few days ago, he actually tried to go down to the west just to pick you up himself.”
Agares seemed to have said it in the best way without hurting Bael’s honor, but unfortunately, from Julia’s own point of view, she couldn’t understand those words of hers at all.
Julia looked at Barbatos with a pair of eyes that appeared to be demanding for an explanation, but he, too, didn’t seem to wish in saying anything more. Tsk—he clicked his tongue and immediately changed the subject.
“I’d like to hear what the hell had happened back in the Western Land.”
“I actually destroyed the magic crystal. I’m very sorry.”
“In much detail.”
His upper body was tilted slightly forward. It had been as if he was truly listening to Julia, who had seated on the sofa right on the opposite side of him. Of course, that wouldn’t have been the case at all.
“Didn’t you attach a familiar to Lord Lerazier? Then, I think you’ve pretty much heard about everything you need. So, I’ll tell you about something else instead…”
“It was already late at night. A dazzling pillar of light had suddenly pierced the western sky without any sort of warning. Although it was for a very short period of time, I was able to recognize it as your power. And it wasn’t just me, but everyone else in the Demon Realm.”
Julia instantly lost her words. Legion, who had been playing around with Paimon seated on his lap, eventually stared at Barbatos.
“Where did this ability of yours come from? Is it the authority as a key? I’ve always thought of you as a wizard who had reached a certain kind of level, but I can’t really fathom the end of your abilities now. It may sound like a ridiculous assumption, but I even thought that you were using some of the Demon God’s power instead.”
“Even if you say something like that, it’s just unbelievable that I—a mere human—could have the power of the Demon God.”
“But still, as a human, you are the key to the magic crystal. You have the power. And it’s something that’s beyond just mere magic resistance. I think that’s…”
Barbatos’s words were cut off and he looked like he was struggling with something. Then, a new window popped up beyond her vision.
[▷ Barbatos
Like I said, she’s just a simple human being, I’m actually stupid for thinking like this. The key could draw on the power of the Demon God? I got a little excited there for a moment.]
The moment when his head was just getting cool enough with a sense of shame, Legion’s sharp voice broke his thoughts.
“That’s not even funny. If you’re thinking of pushing Julia with such nonsense like that, then stop.”
“Legion.”
“Little key, it’s fine. Just leave it alone.”
Julia tried to stop him, but Agares didn’t look very comfortable either. She soon added with a face that was unknowing of the fact that she would actually sympathize with some human words.
“Isn’t that the purpose of finding the little key? This little key is so important to the Master that it becomes no longer possible to entrust Kimaris as the only escort. So, don’t bully the little key for nothing.”
Barbatos, who had been pointed out for thinking stupidly just now, hardened his expression in response. He then stood up from his seat with an utter look of displeasure painted across his face.
