True or False Heiress: Becoming a Vicious Supporting Female Character (39)
After the morning self-study, Chu Xiang went to find the class adviser and requested for accommodation in the school dormitory.
Aware of what Chu Xiang had been through in the past two days, the class adviser kindly advised her, “I know you have been wronged. In fact, familial relationships also need cultivation. You have just returned, and it’s normal to have an adjustment period with your family. Even if there are unpleasant things, don’t give up easily. If you really stay in the dormitory, won’t your relationship become even more distant? I suggest you think about it again.”
Chu Xiang lowered her head and said softly, clutching her clothes, “I’ve tried, really. But I don’t want to be treated like a thief, and I don’t want people to say I’m jealous or narrow-minded. There are many servants at home, and their gazes make me feel suffocated.”
The class adviser was taken aback, and the other teachers in the office also glanced at her involuntarily. The teacher hesitated, unsure if it would be too offensive to ask further, but the principal had instructed her to take good care of Chu Xiang, so she couldn’t stay silent.
She looked at Chu Xiang, who looked nervous and pitiful. She sighed and said, “You have been studying hard recently, and all the subject teachers have praised your rapid progress. If you need it, I can make a home visit and talk to your parents about your performance at school. I’ll let them know that you are improving and adapting to the new life. Maybe they will change their views. Furthermore, those are just rumors and baseless speculation without evidence. I can help clarify things for you.”
Chu Xiang took a deep breath, as if gathering up her courage, and looked up at the class adviser. “Teacher, thank you for your willingness to help me. But I really dare not try again. Last time when Chu Xuan fell down on her own, everyone thought I pushed her. My parents didn’t believe me and punished me severely. They warned me not to bully my sister at school, or else they would let me drop out and study at home with a tutor.
So please, teacher, don’t contact my parents, regardless of whether there is evidence or not. Any kind of trouble is burdensome. I don’t want to cause them any more trouble. I just want everyone to be at peace, and it would be enough for me to continue studying. Teacher, staying in the dormitory is the best choice for me. I really want to stay in the dormitory, I beg you.”
The class adviser was once again taken aback. She looked into Chu Xiang’s teary eyes, filled with pleading, and wondered what kind of hardships she had endured, to the point where it extinguished a child’s longing for her parents. The “unpopular” dormitory at their school turned out to be Chu Xiang’s best choice.
An older teacher sitting nearby couldn’t bear to see the little girl feeling down, so she spoke up, “If she wants to stay in the dormitory, let her stay. Our school’s dormitory and cafeteria conditions are good. Moreover, with the extra time saved from commuting every day, she can study more and catch up on her grades.”
The class adviser nodded and took the opportunity to pull Chu Xiang towards the other teachers. She said, “Chu Xiang has fallen behind in her studies, but she’s a rare child with ambition and intelligence. If you teachers have the time, please help her. Who knows, we might be able to cultivate an outstanding talent.”
Of course, the teachers readily agreed. Which teacher disliked intelligent and ambitious students? Especially since Chu Xiang could grasp concepts quickly, teaching her was a delight.
After a brief discussion between the class adviser and the teachers, they asked Chu Xiang again to confirm that she truly wanted to stay in the dormitory. Once they were convinced, they approved her request. However, because she applied halfway through, the other students had already been assigned to dorm rooms according to their classes, and there was only one vacancy in a four-person room for first-year students.
The school certainly wouldn’t let her stay alone in a four-person room, so after inquiring about it, they arranged her to join the first-year dormitory.
As the school aimed to cultivate students comprehensively, social interaction and getting along with others were part of the process. They didn’t have single or double rooms; all the dormitories were four-person rooms. This suited Chu Xiang’s intentions perfectly. If no one knew her, how could they unravel those rumors? The first-year students had less academic pressure, and they were relatively innocent and loyal. They could help her out.
After returning to the classroom, Chu Xiang went straight to Chu Xuan. The class instantly fell silent, and everyone’s gaze turned towards the two sisters. It was the first time Chu Xiang had taken the initiative to approach Chu Xuan.
Chu Xiang said, “I just applied to stay in the dormitory, and the teacher has approved it.”
Seeing the urgency on Chu Xuan’s face, wanting to speak, Chu Xiang preempted and said, “I have a weak foundation in my studies, and our house is far from school. I waste a lot of time commuting every day due to traffic. Staying in the dormitory is the best option for me. I want to catch up on my grades quickly, so please don’t argue with me on this.”
Chu Xuan stood up, looking helpless. “I-I just wanted to give you and our parents some space to spend time together. I feel like I’m disturbing you, so…”
“You’ve misunderstood,” Chu Xiang looked disappointed. Her eyes instantly turned red, and her tears welled up but she stubbornly held them back. “Mom and Dad like you. Having you around makes them happy. But when they see me, they only get angry. So, stay at home is my way of filial piety. I hope you understand and thank you.”
After finishing her words, Chu Xiang seemed unwilling to say more. She turned her head and returned to her seat, quietly laying her head on the desk.
Everyone had the same thought: Chu Xiang is feeling wronged, on the verge of tears.
Clearly, she was the only daughter of the Chu family, but her parents didn’t like her. They only loved the child that wasn’t theirs. The only way for her to be filial was to leave that home and choose to stay in the dormitory.
The classmates who had been loved by their parents since childhood couldn’t understand this sadness. However, just by looking at Chu Xiang’s back, they could sense her sorrow. Their moods inexplicably became low.
