True or False Heiress: Becoming a Vicious Supporting Female Character (33)
It was possible that Chu Xiang had been bullying Chu Xuan, but it was also unlikely. It was possible because of their identities. Chu Xiang had suffered seventeen years of mistreatment on behalf of someone else, so it was normal for her to harbor resentment. It was unlikely because for so many years, Chu Xiang had never played any tricks or misbehaved while living in the Chen family. She had always behaved properly and appeared to be the kind of person who wouldn’t resort to secretly tormenting others. If she were truly bullying someone, it wouldn’t have been discovered every time. Chu Xiang didn’t seem like a foolish person.
In that case, it was likely that years of emotional attachment had blinded the Chu couple’s judgment, causing them to overlook the fundamental truth of the situation. They easily believed that Chu Xiang was bullying Chu Xuan, which in turn hurt her feelings.
Putting herself in Chu Xiang’s shoes, Mrs. Shao imagined what it would be like if she suddenly found out that Shao Yan wasn’t her biological son and had her real son returned to her. She wouldn’t be able to love her biological son and neglect Shao Yan. After all, she had raised him with care for over a decade, treating him as her own and giving him her affection. Love wasn’t transferrable, relying only on blood ties.
However, she would never unconditionally favor one over the other. Even if she had no emotional attachment to her biological son, she would still care for him, feel sorry for the hardships he had endured over the years, and do her best to mediate between the two children. Even if they couldn’t get along, she would separate them and provide them with the best possible lives instead of punishing one and favoring the other. She believed that the behavior of the Chu couple directly revealed their flawed character and personality.
She briefly told Mr. Shao about these matters and reminded him not to speak recklessly at home and upset the child.
Mr. Shao was still outside, anxiously waiting and unable to see his son and his son’s friend. He thought about it and decided to call the school principal.
This private school was his investment. It had campuses from elementary to high school, all for the convenience of his son’s education. They ensured a safe environment and kept himself informed about his son’s situation. So, in a sense, he was the boss of the principal.
The principal was startled when he received the call, thinking that something had happened with the boss’s son at school. However, the boss asked about another child from the Chu family. The Chu family’s background was not considered low or particularly high within the school; there were many similar families, so the principal had never paid special attention to them.
If it weren’t for the vice principal reporting the incident of cutting the school uniform and drawing on it during the day, the principal might not even know the name Chu Xiang.
He didn’t know much about the situation, so he briefly mentioned the matter to Mr. Shao. Mr. Shao hadn’t expected another incident, but since the surveillance footage showed only Chu Xuan in the changing room, it must have been her doing.
Mr. Shao wasn’t interested in these trivial matters and simply instructed the principal to take care of Chu Xiang and ensure she wouldn’t be treated unfairly on campus.
The principal readily agreed. People like them didn’t need to delve into details when speaking; a single sentence was enough to convey the whole message. After hanging up the phone, the principal informed the vice principal and Chu Xiang’s homeroom teacher to take good care of her and provide her with a quality learning environment. If Chu Xiang had any needs, they should try to fulfill them.
During the day, Chu Xiang had left a good impression on the teachers as a studious, book-loving, and unfortunate child. But at night, all the teachers who received the note couldn’t help but mutter to themselves, realizing that this student had a background. However, they were just teachers, and as long as the student wasn’t causing trouble, they were content with their teaching. Moreover, Chu Xiang was diligent and eager to learn, so they were willing to take extra care of her.
In this way, while Chu Xiang was still doing her homework, Mr. Shao, who had been stuck in traffic, neatly arranged things for her. With the focused attention of the teachers, no one would dare to falsely accuse her, spread rumors about her, or isolate her.
Mr. Shao rushed home just in time for dinner. He briefly met Mrs. Shao in the kitchen, but they couldn’t come up with any concrete plans. Their son had been non-verbal for ten years, and suddenly there was a breakthrough. They were overwhelmed with excitement and didn’t know what to do next.
Mrs. Shao found her husband’s high-end suit too serious-looking, so she pushed him upstairs and let him change into a light-colored, soft fabric casual outfit. Mr. Shao didn’t even know he had such clothes. It was said that some brand sponsors sent new items every season, and if he didn’t wear them, the butler would handle them. This time, it happened to come in handy, allowing him to highlight his approachable and harmless side to the fullest.
Mrs. Shao also found a pair of gold-rimmed glasses for him to wear, saying they would cover up his somewhat sharp gaze and not scare the young girl.
Once they were ready, they had the housekeeper knock on the door to call Shao Yan and Chu Xiang for dinner.
Chu Xiang and Shao Yan had both finished their homework. Chu Xiang even explained a few problems to Shao Yan, with him silently listening. But she knew he was paying attention because after she finished explaining, she had Shao Yan solve similar problems, and he was able to do them correctly. His attitude towards studying was excellent.
They sat down in the dining room, and Mrs. Shao smiled gently and asked, “How was it? Were the questions difficult? If there’s anything you don’t understand, let me know. We have a private tutor at home.”
They did indeed have a tutor at home, but Shao Yan never asked questions or listened to the tutor. Keeping the tutor around was just a precaution, in case he wanted to ask something. By then, they would have someone readily available.
