True or False Heiress: Becoming a Vicious Supporting Female Character (17)
Dong Fei came out of the neighboring class just in time to see them. She was taken aback when she saw Chu Xiang’s pale face, but then she smiled and greeted Yu Nan, “Yu Nan, let’s go eat.”
Yu Nan nodded and pointed at Chu Xiang. “Today, we’re eating together. Go find your classmates.”
“Huh?” Dong Fei quickly glanced at a few people and was astonished to find that Shao Yan, the perennial ice-cold figure, was walking side by side with Chu Xiang. It was clear that they were going to eat together. This was major gossip! Chu Xiang suddenly having interactions with someone else was also a big gossip! How could she miss this?!
Dong Fei immediately took hold of Yu Nan’s hand and smiled playfully. “I’m coming along too! I’m going too! The more people, the merrier. Let’s all eat together!”
Yu Nan frowned in embarrassment and pushed her away. Before she could speak, she saw Chu Xiang in front of them turning back and looking at them with an envious expression. “Yu Nan, is this your friend? You two have such a good relationship! Let’s eat together, the more, the merrier.”
Dong Fei happily exclaimed, “Yu Nan, you see, even Chu Xiang said so. Let’s eat together. By the way, what are we having?”
Yu Nan replied, “Chu Xiang ordered takeout. We’re not going to the cafeteria. We’ll go to the pavilion on the east side and eat there.”
Dong Fei’s eyes lit up. “Great! Not many people go over there, and the scenery is nice. After eating, we can chat. We’ve been studying all day and it’s suffocating. Let’s relax and pass the time outside before coming back.”
Yu Nan could tell from her expression that she wanted to gossip. She somewhat regretted agreeing to let her stay. However, it would be inappropriate to chase her away directly in front of Chu Xiang and the others, so she took out her phone and sent her a WeChat message.
[Don’t ask random questions later. Just shut up and eat.]
[Shut up and eat? How can you eat with your mouth closed? Relax, I know how to handle it.]
Yu Nan thought to herself, What kind of handling do you know? You’re just like a paparazzo. She saw Dong Fei put away her phone, indicating that she wasn’t going to leave, so she didn’t say anything. She planned to pay more attention later and would be able to intercept any inappropriate topics.
The takeout ordered by Chu Xiang arrived right on time. She had ordered six dishes and a soup, and the portions were just right for the five of them. The stone table in the pavilion was round, surrounded by five small stone stools. They sat in a circle, and Chu Xiang first served a bowl of soup in front of Shao Yan.
The three girls immediately looked at Shao Yan, hesitating whether or not to remind Chu Xiang. Shao Yan never interacted with anyone and never ate food given by others. Chu Xiang had only been here for three months, so she might not know.
Then they saw Chu Xiang smiling at Shao Yan and saying, “I had this soup yesterday, it’s very delicious. But it’s not suitable for me to drink too much since I have a weak constitution. Give it a try, it’s appetizing.”
Shao Yan lifted his eyes slightly, seemingly looking at the soup bowl, but his peripheral vision caught Chu Xiang’s smile. Wasn’t she like him before, not speaking or smiling? Why was she smiling so brightly now?
His gaze fell on the soup, and in the astonished gazes of the three girls, he silently picked up the spoon and took a sip.
Chu Xiang smiled even more happily. “Isn’t it delicious? Everyone, give it a try.”
After saying that, Chu Xiang took out a small thermos, opened it, and poured it into her own bowl. Seeing everyone looking at her, she smiled somewhat embarrassedly. “This isn’t just for me, it’s a medicinal cuisine prepared by a hotel for me. It contains a lot of medicine. You shouldn’t drink it.”
They were familiar with medicinal cuisine, as the servants at home often made it, but it was rarely served to them. They were teenagers, full of youthful energy and without any illnesses or pains. Who would eat medicinal cuisine?
Yang Xueqing thought about Chu Xiang’s previous poor living environment and how she wasn’t valued when she returned. She didn’t know if Chu Xiang understood these things, so she kindly said, “Medicine can be toxic to some extent. It must be targeted to be effective; otherwise, it won’t nourish the body and might even be harmful.”
Chu Xiang nodded. “Yes, I know. Don’t worry, I sought out a renowned doctor who specifically prescribed medication for me to supplement my nutrition and such.”
In an instant, Dong Fei and Yu Nan thought of “malnutrition.” They exchanged a glance, feeling somewhat conflicted. While they indulged in selective eating, their classmate was apparently suffering from malnutrition and had to drink this soup that didn’t look appetizing.
Chu Xiang drank the soup, which had a strong medicinal smell, without even wrinkling her brow. Then she smiled and invited everyone to have the dishes, appearing sunny and cheerful.
Dong Fei, who was experiencing such close contact with Chu Xiang for the first time, had been observing her. After holding back for a while, she couldn’t help but look at her and say, “Chu Xiang, you’re quite different from what everyone says. You seem lively.”
Chu Xiang responded with a soft hum. “I know everyone must find it quite strange. Actually, it’s nothing. I just realized something while at the hospital: we should live happily. Who knows whether tomorrow or an accident will come first? I no longer care about how people around me think or see me. I just want to make myself happier in the future and treat each day as if it were the last.”
