Chapter 9.1

5 min read

Lin Xinghe felt this was strange. The missing people were all foreigners, but the dead male corpse in Xiao Xue Ji’s illusion was from this town. She couldn’t figure out the reason, so she took a picture of all sixteen people’s files with her phone in case she missed any information and left the room.

Tang Xin was standing outside, and when she saw Lin Xinghe come out, she was relieved. As if she were spineless, she immediately grabbed hold of Lin Xinghe’s arm.

Lin Xinghe asked her, “Is Xiao Xue Ji here?” Tang Xin shook her head.

Lin Xinghe said: “This town is very strange. There have been 16 disappearances, and all of the missing people are men. The staff in the rescue center are also very strange, not only concealing the fact that many people went missing but also hiding the very evident death of a man in the village. ”

Tang Xin said, “Maybe they did this because they’re scared that tourists won’t want to come here after they know about all the mysteries?”

Lin Xinghe said, “It’s possible, but after the worker knew that I was the lover of the deceased, she still didn’t tell me that the deceased had been killed, so it’s different. Also, I haven’t seen a single male person since I got here.”

Tang Xin listened, a little perplexed. …Lin Xinghe only spent five or six hours in the town longer than the rest of the students did. What did she do in those five or six hours? How could she be the lover of a deceased man? Where did he come from?

Lin Xinghe said, “This is an important clue, and I don’t know if  Xiao Xue Ji killed the man in the illusion.”

Tang Xin asked, “What kind of man?”

Lin Xinghe said, “Oh, you want to know? I have photos.”

Lin Xinghe pulled up the photo, and when Tang Xin looked at it, she almost fell down from fright. On the screen of her phone was the corpse of a man dressed in red, hanging upside down from the ceiling, and the gloomy surroundings were drenched with blood.

Originally, Tang Xin would be afraid if she were by herself, but seeing Lin Xinghe’s calm exterior, as if the photo were just a still from some horror movie, she suddenly became less afraid. She asked Lin Xinghe, “Was he a man from this village ?”

“Yes, I don’t think Xiao Xue Ji killed him.”

“Why not?”

“She’s quite weak and a little bit dumb. She wasn’t able to frighten me and slammed the door out of anger. Don’t you think that someone who does such a thing would not be able to hang a man upside down from the ceiling?”

Tang Xin thought, no, it was obviously very scary! Not weak or stupid at all! Lin Xinghe was a European Emperor, so she just didn’t take the usual path!

At this time, Lin Xinghe suddenly said, “I have to find a way to know what happened in this small town.”

Tang Xin was willing to contribute her part. She racked her brains and said, “Wait until tomorrow morning to ask the staff here? Interrogate them with intimidation?”

“That makes sense.”

Tang Xin was happy that her suggestion was accepted and continued, “We can use money to bribe people or start with the weakness of the interrogation victims. I…I have a knack for collecting information. Tomorrow I…”

Lin Xinghe said: “No, what the staff says may not be true. We don’t know what they are hiding yet, but if we take the initiative to ask them, we will startle the snake from its den.”*

“Then……”

“Aside from the villagers, there are other people who we can ask.”

“Huh… who?”

Half an hour later, Tang Xin got into bed. Half of her hair, which she had just lost not long ago, was left on the pillow. The touch of Xiao Xue Ji and her five-mouthed grin was still vivid in her mind. Thinking of this, she couldn’t help but tremble all over.

Lin Xinghe said to her, “Your fear may be able to attract Xiao Xue Ji to come over. When she appears, you hold her down. I will catch her—it’s better to interrogate her than the villagers.”

At that moment, Tang Xin understood an old saying – how bold a person was, how prolific they would be. Lin Xinghe’s courage was made of diamonds!

However, Tang Xin was determined to get on Lin Xinghe’s boat, so there was no way she could refuse Lin Xinghe’s proposal. Lin Xinghe’s last sentence gave her a boost: “I originally wanted to do it myself, but she can’t scare me. In fact, Xiao Xue Ji seemed to be a little afraid of me, so if I’m the bait, she definitely won’t be fooled. I can only let you do it…”

…Xiao Xue Ji was afraid of Lin Xinghe, which meant that Xiao Xue Ji had weaknesses, so she still had some protection.

Tang Xin kept thinking about things that made her afraid but soon, she discovered that she didn’t need to think about anything. Lying there was enough to make her afraid. With her eyes closed, she felt her eyelashes flutter, and she started breathing rapidly.

Suddenly, she noticed a cool wind, exactly the same as before.

Tang Xin knew that Xiao Xue Ji was here! She was instinctively frightened, and she pressed her lips together so tightly they turned white.

She kept Lin Xinghe’s words in mind, and when Xiao Xue Ji got closer, she closed her eyes, pounced, and shouted, “Lin Xinghe!”

With a bang, the lights in the house were turned on.

Tang Xin firmly hugged the bundle in her arms, exhausting all her strength. She didn’t dare to look at what was in her arms, or even think about it. One second, the temperature of the bundle in her arms dropped to below freezing, and in the next, the bundle felt smooth and greasy, like the skin of a reptile.
