Seventy-seven Dragons (1)
Was this a dream?
Mu Wanwan’s eyes stung sore, and she felt that the cold touch of Mister Long on her cheeks was like an illusion.
Her chest felt uncomfortable, her soul exhausted, and her forehead had hit the elixir furnace, bleeding a lot. It must be bruised, and she must look quite terrible. Why did he come back now? He didn’t come back when she had put on make-up and dressed up beautifully
How annoying!
Suddenly feeling a weight on her waist, Mu Wanwan, who was lost in her thoughts, felt like the world in front of her was spinning.
Her consciousness hazy, she vaguely felt herself being lifted up, and it seemed like Mister Long was holding her.
Instinctively gripping his wet and cold clothes, Mu Wanwan leaned against Mister Long’s shoulder, feeling that everything in front of her was unbelievable.
Her dragon had returned, her dragon had really come back.
“Wah…” Although it was embarrassing, Mu Wanwan ignored the pain in her forehead and buried her head in his embrace. She let the tears that had been held back for more than ten days flow freely, a mix of pain, sweetness, and the scent of blood.
He came back; she thought he wouldn’t.
Mu Wanwan’s tears fell like beads, leaving the bad dragon at a loss.
He was always helpless in the face of her tears, let alone this time when it was all because of him that she was crying.
Apart from matters concerning him, his wife was never one to be anxious about anything.
She was calm and strong; when he hadn’t recovered and was still unconscious, she single-handedly took on all the burdens of life.
She was bullied by the servants, had few spirit stones, dealt with the mess in the courtyard, and managed the extremely complicated household chores for a mere Rank 1 cultivator. All this, while also taking care of him when he was in a miserable and comatose state.
Back then, his tail was still rotten, and he was so ugly, unconscious, and smelly.
Even when she was facing such difficult circumstances, she had never been so sad.
There was a faint light in Mister Long’s eyes, and he slowly tightened his arms, holding her a bit tighter.
She was much lighter.
Did she become so light because she was worrying about him?
He had encountered some unexpected events during his trip out. He had been greedy and wanted to bring back the things he had hidden in several places. However, the treasure site along the edge of his territory had been occupied by some demons.
He eventually triumphed over them, but encountered a sinister wind from the abyss after that.
If it weren’t for the leader of the Special Lifeforms Alliance happening to pass by and help him, and if he hadn’t participated in setting up his entire mansion’s barrier back then, he might not have been able to return.
During the battle, while being forced to hide under the rocks and wait for the demonic energy, which was like a forest of knives, to pass, he faced death without fear. His heart, however, was full of reluctance, and his tongue repeatedly whispered her name.
In the midst of adversity, his mind seemed to be filled only with her face.
On the first day of breaking his word to her, half the scales on Mister Long’s body shattered, and when the blood fell, his mind was filled with the frantic thought that she would leave him.
He was already so useless. All he wanted was to buy her a few nice clothes, save some money for her, and let her see what top-quality spirit stones looked like.
If he couldn’t even do these things, he would truly be the most useless dragon in the world.
On the fifth day of breaking his word to her, the curse inside him erupted again.
Rendered to a state where he was only able to crawl, the elixirs she refined became his only solace.
He missed her so, so much.
On the eighth day of breaking his word to her, his previous intention to leave her and venture off on his own was completely uprooted by the emotions he could no longer suppress. At the same time, panic and madness grew uncontrollably like wild grass.
What if— What if she didn’t wait for him?
Just the thought of her being sad for a while if he didn’t return, then hate him, forget about him, and start a new life, her heart and eyes no longer seeing him, but some other dragon (?), or even a feathery chirp…
He felt jealous to the point of madness, wishing he could swallow her whole.
He was really… Mister Long, pursed his lips.
Besides the demon he encountered right after hatching, he had never met anyone who treated him as kindly as she did.
Her crescent-shaped eyes, radiant smile, the way she blushed yet remained straightforward when they were together… every single part of him was moulded to fit his preferences exactly.
He was a dragon who brought misfortune, an ugly and different kind of dragon from the others.
Mister Long had never imagined that he would encounter someone as sunny as her in his dark and solitary dragon life.
She had said she was his wife.
His wife.
He had once thought, “You are so weak now, and the future is uncertain. It might be better to pretend to be cold and indifferent.” However, after witnessing the brilliance in her eyes and secretly kissing her lips, he could no longer let her go.
Fortunately, she had been waiting for him all along.
She never gave up on him.
“Wanwan.”
Mister Long looked at the traces of tears on her eyelashes, softly uttering her name.
Blood dripped from his robes, yet he seemed oblivious to any pain.
His heart was filled with shameless, selfish joy.
“I’m back.” Mister Long lowered his head slightly, the corners of his lips lifting, his voice gentle. “I’m back.”
Mu Wanwan tightened her grip on his robe, willing to immerse herself in the dream, the exhaustion from days of refining elixirs weighing down on her soul. After being mentally strained for a long time, hearing Mister Long’s voice relaxed her in an instant. The fatigue and pain overwhelmed her like a bursting flood.
Although she had a lot to say to him, wanting to complain about why he took so long to return, ask if he was injured again, reassure him that she would always be by his side in the future, and even thought about holding a knife to this damned foolish dragon’s neck, making sure he would never leave her behind alone again…!
“Bad dragon,” Mu Wanwan uttered, then allowed herself to sink into the darkness that no longer frightened her.
Mister Long blinked his raven-black long eyelashes, then revealed the broken horn and furry ears he always remained concealed when he was outside.
He looked rather wretched, having been injured in order to come back quickly. Although there was an abundant supply of spirit stones and elixirs now, his appearance was still ugly. For example, the fur on the huge ears of his original form was almost all bald (:3」∠)
