“You’re awake?”
Slowly blinking her eyes a couple more times, Anne met the clear gaze looking down at her.
Anne was trying to smile at the sweet and gentle voice, but as she realized the difference in the sensation of the pillow under her head, she abruptly sat up. The light sheet covering Anne’s body smoothly slid down.
“Already awake? Go back to sleep more if you want.”
Daymond said as he tidied Anne’s disheveled clothes with care. While the tone was full of consideration, a hint of anxiety briefly crossed his expression.
Anne looked around with bewildered eyes.
“This is…”
“Inside the Grand Duchy’s carriage.”
At the unbelievable answer, Anne blinked her eyes in a slow, puzzled manner.
“What is happening right now?”
“Surprised?”
One might surely be surprised to wake up in a carriage after sleeping in a bed.
Anne quickly grasped the strange situation. The wheels rolling on the smooth road were gentle, but still, there was enough vibration to indicate that they were moving somewhere.
“Daymond, where are we going?”
“Honeymoon.”
At the crisp answer, Anne’s lips parted in bewilderment. Daymond gently covered her mouth with his hand. After swallowing dry saliva several times, Anne finally spoke.
“Wasn’t that discussion over?”
In fact, a few months ago, he had suggested going on a trip after the wedding. He had proposed the idea of a honeymoon, a journey that everyone takes after a wedding, as they had formalized their marriage.
However, with the festival looming and a mountain of tasks to handle, Anne saw that she found it difficult. While he had a somewhat dissatisfied face, he didn’t push her to prepare and leave right away.
So, she thought the matter was settled, but to suddenly wake up in a carriage, kidnapping the person who was sleeping without saying a word…
“It wasn’t exactly over; it was more like an inconclusive. Are you… angry?”
“Yes. It’s not appropriate to kidnap someone sleeping.”
“I’ve been saying let’s go on vacation since last time, but you never listened.”
“How busy we are right now.”
There were not just one or two matters that needed to be confirmed within a few days. Daymond was no exception. As the decision-maker, he was burdened with a pile of family affairs.
“There must be something more crucial for us to do than that. Like, for example, a date.”
They had been so busy that they hadn’t even had a decent date let alone a vacation. Daymond casually suggested that, considering they hastily got married, it might be nice to experience ordinary dating like everyone else.
As Daymond went on refuting each of Anne’s points about the Grand Duke’s duties as if they were nothing, Anne found it hard to believe. Especially, the word ‘date’ coming out of this man’s mouth was beyond surprising. He was still an amazing man in many ways.
Daymond, lowering his head to Anne’s eye level, spoke with a genuinely concerned face.
“If you continue to push yourself like this, you’ll collapse sooner or later.”
“Push myself? If someone hears that, they might think I’ve been pulling all-nighters for days.”
“You’ve been so busy that you’ve lost weight again.”
Daymond’s gaze, scanning Anne’s body, was filled with dissatisfaction. It was so absurd that a sigh escaped Anne involuntarily.
“It’s not that I lost weight because it’s hard… Who is the one who held me every night without a moment’s rest?”
“That’s exactly what happened in my eyes. That’s why I kidnapped you.”
Daymond shamelessly lifted his chin and added, as if it was inevitable.
Anne touched her forehead amidst the pride in his tone. She momentarily overlooked the man before her because of the peace that had settled between them. A man with an innate talent for devising schemes.
“So, that’s why you drained me like that yesterday.”
To say that yesterday was on fire was an understatement, they had tossed and turned throughout the night, and as a result, Anne was completely exhausted. Taking advantage of her deep sleep, Daymond moved her to the carriage while she was still asleep and set off.
“So, you put a sleeping person into the carriage without saying a word?”
As Anne intentionally gave an accusatory gaze, Daymond’s lips formed a sly smile.
“I didn’t put you in, I carried you.”
“All the servants probably saw.”
The hand that had momentarily dropped returned to touch her forehead. Seeing that she was covered with a thin sheet, Anne thought she had been wrapped up in the bedding, carried, and brought out.
Even though I suggested going on a honeymoon, you kept refusing, using busyness as an excuse. There was no other option.”
“What if I decide to get off the carriage now?”
“Then you’ll probably end up sleeping outdoors again.”
He even suggested that it wouldn’t be so bad. He believed it would be a good experience for the few attendants and knights he brought along. Regardless, the sight of the Grand Duke and Duchess sleeping outdoors in the forest would only lead to unnecessary talks.
