“I still need to get some rest.”
“Then I’ll tell them to bring a chair.”
Anne gently took Daymond’s hand, which he had raised to give a command, and lowered it.
Coincidentally, the place they were was on a lawn overlooking a wide hill. Anne tugged at Daymond’s hand and made him sit on the ground, and she placed herself next to him. Then as he sat down obediently without knowing why, she gently rested her head on his shoulder. His firm yet wide chest was quite comfortable.
“You can just sit like this.”
Anne stopped him because they didn’t need to be formal. Daymond smiled, looping his arms around her shoulders.
Across from them, children holding candy were running happily up the hill and laughing. The pure and quiet laughter made the onlookers smile.
Anne, who was looking at the children with happy eyes, suddenly spoke.
“I will raise our child without any greed or calculations.”
They had never actually had the conversations that were common between couples intending to have children. She hadn’t thought about raising her child after the child was born. So she wanted to talk to him about this now.
“I don’t plan on making them bear the burden of family or responsibilities or anything like that. I just want to raise them so that they can live bright and happy lives.”
“That goes for me too. I just hope they are born healthy.”
Daymond and Anne’s childhood lives were neither ordinary nor beautiful. Daymond had no parents, and Anne was not loved growing up, so she always suffered from loneliness.
Therefore, they wanted to create a happy family. It wasn’t something that could be achieved with just one person’s efforts. It had to be done by two people working together.
“You’re not going to change your mind at that time, are you? I want to raise our child free from things like successor education and such.”
“Do as you wish.”
He gently pressed his lips against Anne’s cheek, which was starting to heat up. Before she could react, Anne tapped his chest, her cheeks blushing a little at what had happened. The night time when she could feel Daymond’s warmth was good, but sometimes, when he gave her a gentle touch with his loving eyes shining, her heart pounded.
“Isn’t it uncomfortable because your shoulders are stiff?”
“Well, it’s nothing in particular, but I’m feeling heavy so I need to lie down for a bit.”
Anne placed her hand on Daymond’s leg, who was looking around to call the maids again, and lay down on his thigh. It was a kind of award given to him for listening to her stubbornness today.
As she lifted her eyes, her eyes met him as he looked down with a slightly unexpected look.
“A lot has changed just lying down in a place like this.”
“Just you? When you came back from the capital, you laid down in the forest.”
It was an amazing experience for the first time in her life. Anne, who had changed her consciousness to that of a hard-hearted noblewoman, also laughed, feeling unfamiliar with her appearance.
“Don’t you remember? In the past, you always laid your head on my leg and watched the sunset together.”
“I remember.”
She didn’t forget. Because he and she would often lie down on the lawn of the greenhouse and not only look at the sunset but also count the stars in the night sky.
Still, that was the past, so she wanted to make new memories again.
However, his thigh muscles were so strong that it was not a comfortable position. Daymond asked, as if he was thinking the same thing as he carefully brushed Anne’s hair down.
“Shall I ask them to bring something else?”
“Why, am I too heavy?”
“That’s not it…”
He spoke carefully. Feeling that something was strange, she turned her head and saw the bulge in his pants right in front of her eyes.
Daymond must have noticed Anne’s gaze lingering for a moment and quickly crossed his legs. He hurriedly opened his mouth to avoid being seen as someone who had insidious thoughts about his wife, who was simply admiring the scenery of the travels.
“It’s not because I had strange thoughts… it’s just an instinct.”
Anne laughed heartily when she saw him rambling incoherently and failing to control his facial expression. He used to have an emotionless face, but now quite a variety of emotions were naturally melting his icy face.
Anne, who enjoyed seeing his flustered expressions, narrowed her eyes and straightened her expression.
“Why? You confidently said that if anyone saw the Grand Duke and his wife’s affair, they would turn their eyes away.”
The eyes in front of them were village children. Daymond’s red eyes wavered back and forth, quite embarrassed.
“Then, shall we go back home?”
“Is it still early? The weather is good too. Is there something urgent?”
“I’m worried about your body.”
Anne glanced at him.
“Wouldn’t it be more dangerous if we went back?”
Daymond cleared his throat loudly and slowly twisted his gaze. As if he was enduring something, his fixed gaze captured the green forest swaying in the breeze for a long time.
“Ha… I’ll hold it in.”
Daymond took a deep breath and returned to a somewhat calm expression, gently touching Anne’s hair. The two of them gazed at the vast plain while feeling a pleasant breeze blowing moderately.
Only after seeing the sunset completely setting on the hill did they leave.
