Chapter 86.2

“If you go out dressed like that, you’ll get sick . . . Put this on.”

He added, draping a large shawl over Anne’s shoulders. On the other hand, he was in his indoor clothing and didn’t even pick up any outerwear to cover himself.

Anne took the lead, obediently adjusting the shawl he had given her.

The forest shrouded in early morning fog was mysterious, like it held a secret. As they walked, he obediently followed her without asking any questions.

Upon arriving at the entrance to the greenhouse, Daymond opened the glass door and moved out of the way so she could enter first. Anne looked around at the space where the spring season was in full bloom. The space that had been abandoned and desolate when she first came was now filled with flowers so colorful and fresh that she couldn’t recall that time.

As Anne reached the deep corner flower bed where she had buried the box before, she looked back at him. He followed her without knowing why and calmly waited for her to speak.

“Daymond… Do you remember this?”

Anne opened her palm, which she had been clenching the entire time. Daymond’s eyes slowly widened as he discovered a blue diamond ring.

“Has this been in your possession this entire time?”

He seemed very surprised and could not take his eyes off the rings. After Anne disappeared, Daymond also searched for the ring, a token of love, but was unable to find it at all.

“I had one with me, and the other was buried in the ground until now. And I’m going to bury them both now.”

“… That means you’re going to cut me off for good, now.”

Daymond’s face suddenly sank. When his sinking red eyes became even darker, Anne swallowed dryly and got to the point.

“If I give birth, you will die. Do you know that?”

Daymond, who had a bitter expression, suddenly narrowed his eyes and made an unintelligible sound.

“Daymond, when a child carrying your blood is born, you will lose all your powers and become an ordinary human.”

“…”

He listened quietly, but did not seem to understand much. Anne slowly explained to him what she had heard from Luciel.

“All your abilities superior to humans will disappear, and soon death will come, like you’re an ordinary human being. Luciel lied because he didn’t want to lose you.”

Daymond still had a hard time understanding the words coming out of Anne’s mouth. But he did not carelessly doubt her words.

“Is that what it was…”

He smiled self-deprecatingly, stroking his face with a dry hand. Because Luciel was that kind of person. It wouldn’t surprise him at all if there was one more thing he lied about.

“Now I’m asking you if you would give up your eternal life for a child.”

This was the second chance she was giving him, something he had hoped for all along. It was his choice whether to accept it or not.

“If that’s true, I’ll accept it. I can end my boring life… No, it might be better to end my loneliness without you.”

He answered easily, with a somewhat relieved look on his face, as if he had thrown away everything he was carrying in his heart.

“No one knows how much human life you have left. You can live a long time, but you can also die right away. And yet… Even if you die, are you really okay with this child being born?”

Anne asked once more, staring at his lips. A faint smile appeared on those lips.

“Anne, there’s no need to ask. This is ‘our’ child.”

Our child.

The words Anne had longed to hear from the past pierced her frozen heart. It penetrated so deeply that the lump of ice that had been weighing down her entire body melted and flowed down her cheek.

Daymond, watching her as she desperately tried to hold back her cries, also contorted his face in pain.

“Then… We lost our first child, but please remain as this child’s father until the end of your life.”

Shock appeared in Daymond’s eyes.

He never dreamed that he would be forgiven, nor that he would be able to become a father. He was sure that he could never be redeemed… Nevertheless, he had convinced himself the whole time, telling himself that as long as he could stay by her side, it was enough.

But she herself was saying that she would accept him. Daymond bit his lip until it bled, his mind a whirlwind of emotions.

“You’re showing such generosity to me . . .? When I don’t deserve it…?”

“I will bury the past here along with this ring, so dedicate the rest of your life to me and my child. That’s the only way you can atone.”

“If that’s what you truly want…”

Daymond walked up to Anne and knelt down on one knee. Then, he carefully placed his lips on the back of her hand, sealing his oath with a kiss.

“I will dedicate the rest of my life to you. Every moment from now on, my soul will be bound to you.”

Anne’s lips trembled pathetically as she cried, her eyes red and tearful. Her tears soaked their hearts.
