Chapter 298

The more she thought about it, the stronger her murderous intent grew. Even Su Qiuge had already sensed Su Yuanzhou’s thoughts. Her gaze fell on the wound on Xie Xinglin’s waist, and she couldn’t help but worry. If she were to leave now, who knows what Su Yuanzhou would be capable of. The more she thought about it, the more uneasy she became, so she took the initiative to hold his wrist.

“I came here today to find him. I must take him back.”

So she didn’t know what she was doing, going round and round, and ended up taking him back to her palace.

His expression remained calm as he silently followed behind her, but she could clearly feel that his gaze was always on her. Just thinking about it made her somewhat nervous. At this moment, she didn’t know why, but she didn’t want to return to the palace. She glanced towards the distant marketplace.

The marketplace in the distance seemed unaffected by tonight’s assassination, still lively and bustling with riddles being guessed, playful banter, and small stalls. From afar, the night market was illuminated by paper lanterns held by people’s hands. She realized her state of mind had changed and suddenly wanted to go over there and have some fun.

But when she saw the guards that Su Yuanzhou had sent to follow her, she sighed. These people were definitely going to escort her directly back.

She didn’t conceal any of her expressions; all her emotions showed on her face, observed by him. He suddenly leaned in closer and whispered in her ear, “Want to go and play?”

She nodded slightly, then sighed again, “Forget it, these people are so stubborn, they’ll follow wherever I go…”

The person beside her slightly curved his lips and said softly, “That’s easy.” Almost as soon as he finished speaking, she felt her waist being embraced, and in the next moment, she was being carried away, soaring through the sky.

She widened her eyes slightly and then looked at the guards who had reacted and were chasing after them in a panic, but their speed was clearly insufficient, and they were soon left behind. Su Qiuge watched those people desperately chasing after them, looking lost and thought it was somewhat amusing. He had carried her on his shoulders before on the boat, so she wasn’t as frightened now and even found it quite fun.

After a while, the figures of those guards quickly disappeared behind them. When she was put down, they happened to be in front of a restaurant where riddles were being guessed.

The atmosphere here was lively, with people selling sugar figurines and lanterns. Su Qiuge took a stroll and bought two masks: one in the shape of a rabbit and the other a fox. Worried that Xie Xinglin’s appearance might attract too much attention, she tossed him the half-mask of the fox and told him to wear it, while she hung the rabbit mask on her hand to play with. As they continued to wander, they stopped at the area where sugar figurines were being sold. There, the sugar figurines were made in various shapes. She leaned forward to smell their scent and wanted to buy some. However, when she reached into her purse, she realized that she had not a single coin left after buying the masks.

Su Qiuge: “…”

This princess is truly unfortunate. Not only does she have no rights, but she also has no money. She stared longingly at the sugar figurine while Xie Xinglin lowered his gaze, a slight curve forming on his lips, waiting for her to make a plea.

At this moment, the old man who made the sugar figurines couldn’t bear to watch anymore. He turned to Xie Xinglin and said, “Young master, since your wife wants it so much, and today happens to be a festival, it seems to me that you come from a wealthy family. Why not buy one for her?”

Xie Xinglin’s body stiffened slightly, and the old man continued cheerfully, “Young master, you’re blessed to marry such a beautiful girl. Treat her well.”

Su Qiuge, finally hearing someone speak up for her, nodded repeatedly, unaware that the person beside her had a slightly deeper gaze because of the way she referred to herself. Then, without saying a word, he took out the purse from his waist and directly handed it to the old man.

The old man held the heavy purse and couldn’t help but express his disbelief, “Young master, this…?”

The person’s expression was obscured by the fox mask, and only a steady voice came from behind the mask—”Take all these sugar figurines.”

The reason Su Qiuge had asked him to wear the mask was to avoid revealing his face because he was too good-looking, which might attract too much attention. But now, seeing the person behind her carrying a string of sugar figurines, she couldn’t help but touch her forehead and feel that it made him even more eye-catching.

With a sugar figurine in her mouth, she turned her head and complained to him, “Buying so many, I won’t be able to finish them in my lifetime.” He replied calmly from behind, “If you can’t finish them, give them away. There are so many people on the street, give them to whoever you like.”

Su Qiuge fell silent because fireworks began to illuminate the sky not far away. The tails of the fireworks hung from the slightly raised eaves of the buildings, shining with a golden glow. The street became even more lively. At this moment, she suddenly felt the person beside her getting closer.

Just as she had this thought, she turned her head and met his gaze. Under the half-mask of the fox, a pair of eyes gleaming with a cold light were fixed on her. Her mouth still had traces of sugar, and her almond-shaped eyes were exceptionally beautiful against the backdrop of the sparkling fireworks above. Her expression seemed a bit innocent. Then, he reached out and slowly touched the side of her lips, using his fingertips to wipe away the sugar stains and cleaning his hand.

Then, right in front of her, he used his tongue to slowly lick the sugar stains off his fingers, all the while keeping his eyes fixed on her.

She felt a little embarrassed being stared at like that, and in the end, even became annoyed and asked, “What’s the matter with you? Is it delicious?”

Then he chuckled softly, his distinct fingers gripping the mask. As he removed the mask, revealing a handsome and refined face, he leaned forward and kissed her.

A clean and pleasant fragrance emanated from him, causing her to slightly lose herself. She felt the moist sensation on her lips, even a slight nibbling sensation. It wasn’t until the next burst of fireworks illuminated and made a sound that she abruptly awakened, pushing him away directly.

Blushing, she glanced around, unsure if anyone had seen what just happened.

He took a step back, his lips curling into a satisfied smile. Then he calmly said, “Delicious.”

Unable to resist his smugness, she harshly pinched his arm. He furrowed his brows slightly and leaned closer, lowering his gaze, “Be gentle, you’re pressing on my wound.”

Her eyelashes trembled, and as expected, she lowered her head to look at his wound. Little did she know that in that instant, the person next to her embraced her while she was leaning down.

She let out a sob, about to struggle, but then she heard him leisurely continue, “Princess, if you move again, the wound will reopen.”

At this moment, she felt intense hatred, even thinking about sprinkling salt on his wound to make him experience the harshness of the world. However, in the end, she did nothing and let him embrace her.
