Star-Picking Youth (1)
Bai Qi looked at Uncle Xi, then Xi Chengyun, and felt he understood something. So he hesitantly voiced out, “Um, maybe they might just want to invite you to do a DNA paternity test?”
“Is that so? Xi-laoshi?” Bai Qi asked in a small voice.
Xi Chengyun nodded.
He bent down slightly and put his hand on Frank’s shoulder. “Can we talk now?”
Frank seemed to be in a huge shock.
Of course, he knew what the paternity test meant.
But could a person be this lucky? To get a new job offer and at the same time have the person you thought you’d probably spend the rest of your life looking for come to your door automatically?
You might not have such a chance even if you won the lottery!
Frank looked at Xi Chengyun skeptically and repeatedly confirmed that given the other party’s reputation and family assets, there didn’t seem to be anything to plot from him……
And Bai Qi…… should be trustworthy.
Frank sat on the sofa blankly and helplessly. “Then…… let’s try it?”
Xi Chengyun nodded. He then smiled politely and pressed Frank’s shoulder calmly with force, and just like that, he peeled the person off Bai Qi’s body.
“I’m going to make a doctor’s appointment.” Xi Chengyun then fumbled for his cell phone and turned to the side to make a call.
Frank sat on the couch briefly before gradually recovering from the shock.
“Can I ask, did your family…… lose a child?”
Over there, Xi Chengyun put away his cell phone, turned around, and calmly recounted, “Mm, my younger brother has been lost for many years.”
“Then how can you be sure I might be your lost younger brother?”
“Uncle said you look like Grandpa, so presumably, it’s an intergenerational inheritance?”
Frank hesitated momentarily and carefully held out his hand. “Excuse me, is there a photo I can look at?”
Uncle Xi answered, “I’ll have someone fetch it.”
Frank: “Oh.”
He was probably a little afraid of Xi-laoshi’s uncle, and while responding, he instinctively moved in Bai Qi’s direction. However, Xi-laoshi’s hand stretched out from the side and firmly held him down.
Frank didn’t say a word and sat down honestly.
Bai Qi couldn’t help but blink.
‘If Frank is truly Little Ye…… then his falling into the Xi family is probably a bit like…… a little white rabbit falling into a ferocious beast’s den.’
Uncle Xi quickly got photos and even newspaper clippings about Grandpa Xi from his subordinates.
And Xi Chengyun quickly made an appointment with the DNA Test Center for the day after tomorrow.
Because the next day, Frank had to report to the program first.
The Bai family couple was in a trance, vaguely figuring out what was happening.
“Bai Shan, fix the sofa.”
“Ey.”
Papa Bai responded, transformed the sofa into a bed, and enthusiastically asked Frank to stay for the night. If this was a child lost by the Xi family, wouldn’t they still be family afterward?
Bai Qi turned his head into the small utility room, rummaging through the cupboards to find Frank’s new toothpaste.
As he went in, he heard footsteps.
When he turned around, he saw Papa Bai standing there.
“Pa? What’s wrong?” Bai Qi met Papa Bai’s gaze suspiciously.
“Hey……” Papa Bai hesitated and said in a low voice, “I just realized that Little Xi’s family is so complicated.”
Bai Qi wanted to say, ‘But Xi-laoshi is not complicated!’
Immediately afterward, he heard Papa Bai say, “You should be nicer to Little Xi. Have you spent the money Papa gave you last time on Little Xi?”
“No……”
“How can a boy be so stingy? You should spend it.” Papa Bai sighed softly, “Other people surely feel sorry for the stranded children outside. But your father, I, more or less, only bent my elbows inward toward my family*. I think the pressure and pain that Little Xi has suffered over the years is not necessarily less.”
*Elbow bending inward: A saying for parents defending their children during a dispute with classmates; the opposite of elbow bending outward (scolding their children).
Bai Qi couldn’t help but laugh as he listened.
He nodded his head twice vigorously. “Mm, I’ll coax Xi-laoshi later!”
Papa Bai waved his hands back and forth. “Okay, okay, go. Your mom and I will help entertain the guests.”
Papa Bai packed up the toiletries and boiled new chopsticks and bowls.
Turning around, he saw Bai Qi riding on Xi Chengyun’s back.
Papa Bai:?
‘Aren’t you coaxing Little Xi? Do you call this coaxing?’
Bai Qi firmly slumped on Xi Chengyun’s back, barely able to lift his face deeply buried in Xi Chengyun’s neck.
“Xi-laoshi…… are you happier?” Bai Qi’s voice was low and soft, as if floating in mid-air.
Xi Chengyun lowered his eyes.
“Almost.”
Xi Chengyun held Bai Qi’s waist with one hand and Bai Qi’s leg with the other.
The hand that clasped the leg traveled along the mid-calf, up slowly, following the undulating muscle lines and rubbing over the base of the thigh. The memory of being in a foreign B&B was quickly hooked back into his mind.
But without waiting for that memory to play back and forth in his brain, Xi-laoshi’s hand pressed on his buttocks.
Xi Chengyun’s expression remained unchanged, well-dressed, and still looked like an upright gentleman.
But his hand was already under Bai Qi’s jacket, pressing and kneading it several times like playing with playdough. ‘Hey, that’s inappropriate!’
Bai Qi unconsciously tensed his legs, and his body instinctively fell downward.
He thought it wouldn’t be long before Xi-laoshi couldn’t hold him up anymore. However, after half a day, Xi Chengyun carried him steadily and powerfully from the living room to the balcony and then back again from the balcony.
“Xi-laoshi……” Bai Qi couldn’t help but call out again in a low voice.
Xi Chengyun also answered in a low voice, “Mm.”
“How about now? Are you a bit happier? I think I can come down.” Bai Qi said against his ear.
Bai Qi slightly tilted his face sideways, his eyes flickering.
By doing so, he blocked out all the changes in his out-of-place demeanor.
Xi Chengyun sensed the warm breath blowing in his ear, and Bai Qi’s lips seemed to kiss his ear even as he spoke.
The veins on Xi Chengyun’s neck throbbed.
He raised his hand upward, pressed Bai Qi’s back, and carried him into the bedroom.
Bai Qi’s feet finally hit the ground when the bedroom door closed with a bang.
Xi Chengyun set him down.
